I find that the difference between color photography and black-and-white is
that with the latter, with the color cues removed, we are forced to look at
the raw structure of the image.
When I shoot black-and-white, I'm looking for powerful contrast, the
interaction of shapes, interesting detail, and a composition that
encompasses a strong visual presentation. Oftentimes a photograph just needs
to be black-and-white in order to best tell its story.
